Total Demolition of
´Ethiopia´ with the
Sidamas Engaged in
the Path for
Independence
By Kambata Xoola
The Nation of the
Sidama had developed
their own, African
Kushitic,
civilization and
culture on a
sophisticated
socio-economic and
political background
which was vibrant
until the 1890s when
the Abyssinian king
Menelik invaded the
independent Sidama
kingdom. With that
event the long
Sidama History
entered into a new
phase, namely that
of the slavery,
oppression and
darkness.
The recent stage of
Sidama History is
consequently divided
into several periods
of indomitable
resistance against
the successive
Abyssinian
dictatorial regimes.
Hundreds of
thousands of heroic
Sidamas sacrificed
their lives only for
the most noble
purpose of regaining
their lost autonomy
one day. The
re-establishment of
a free and
independent Sidama
state and society
has been the
principal among the
fundamental reasons
of existence and
purposes of life of
the Sidamas. Their
spirit of resistance
and their readiness
for sacrifice for
the National Cause
continue unabated.
Over the past 110
years, the
traditional values
of the Sidamas,
humane, equalitarian
and democratic in
their essence, have
been disrespected in
brutal, and
uncivilized way by
the Abyssinian
invaders and illegal
settlers. Useless to
add, the elementary
Human and Civil
Rights the rights of
the people of Sidama
have been suppressed
too.
If not constantly
slaughtered, the
Sidamas have been
ceaselessly
mistreated,
intentionally
humiliated, and
unreservedly
brutalised by the
Abyssinian rulers,
who for both the
Sidamas´ and the
Western world´s
standards proved to
be absolutely
uneducated,
uncultured and even
illiterate. Useless
to add, they were
totally ignorant of
the Sidama
civilization and
culture, and without
bothering to learn
basics about it,
they were convinced
that they had to
eradicate it and
replace it by their
own Abyssinian
´culture´.
In their own land,
the Sidamas were not
recognized as an
individual nation,
and they were denied
access to their own
country´s natural
resources that have
been looted for over
a century. The
Sidamas were not
allowed to exercise
their basic human
and democratic
rights or even to
freely practice
their own culture
and worship their
own, ages old,
faith.
Down to our days,
the Sidamas
continued being
oppressed; since
1991, they have been
ruled by TPLF/EPRDF's
iron fist. The
Abyssinian
dictatorial regime
did not show any
interest, let alone
deploy effort, to
help alleviate
Sidamas´ troubles.
The foreign
Abyssinian rulers
did not even
consider options on
how to eliminate or
reduce the Sidamas´
abject poverty and
misery.
Recapitulating 11
decades of
monarchical,
pro-communist, and
pseudo-republican
rule, we can
conclude that the
obvious political
agendas of these
successive regimes
have mostly evolved
around the following
axes:
Expropriation of
natural resources
Eradication of the
Sidama national
identity
Deracination of all
elements of Sidama
culture, faith, and
socio-economic
organization and
Implementation of
the Abyssinian
anti-democratic and
totalitarian
mentality, culture
and attitude.
It goes without
saying that in doing
so the Abyssinian
rulers, elites and
illegal settlers in
Sidama Land totally
ignored the
steadfast and
generalized
opposition of the
Sidama Nation in its
entirety to their
racist plans.
The International
Community
During all these
long decades of
Sidama oppression
and terrorization,
the Western powers,
namely America,
England and Europe,
continuously paid
attention and
listened to the
deceit diffused by
the regime, giving a
blind eye for the
plights of the
Sidama and others
subjugated nations.
The TPLF/EPRDF
Abyssinian regime
deployed a great
effort in order to
convince the
international
community, and more
particularly the
aforementioned
countries; they did
so, by introducing
apparently
democratic laws
which were never
implemented.
Instead, they
continued dictating
their orders in a
totalitarian way.
Thus, Sidama Land
never experienced
the slightest notion
of democracy under
this regime.
In reality, Meles's
regime continued
taking illegal and
inhuman actions in
order to subdue the
resistance movements
an organizations of
the Sidama Nation,
as well as those of
the other oppressed
nations within the
Abyssinian Empire.
Under such tragic
circumstances, the
Sidama Nation has
increasingly become
the victims of
different types of
brutal treatment
perpetrated by the
present regime.
Culminating their
anti-Sidama
policies, the Tigray
and Amhara
Abyssinian rulers
through their
paranoid policies
deliberately caused
famine in Sidama
Land despite the
fact that the
country is an
evergreen Paradise.
Yet, famine is
currently rampant in
Sidama Land.
At the political
level, there is no
genuine
representation of
the over 5.3 million
Sidamas in the
General Assembly.
Meles's Regime
Credibility: Nil
During the past few
weeks, and more
specifically after
the publication
(June 12) of the HRW
Report on Ogaden in
which the current
regime was held
responsible for
Crimes against the
Mankind, Meles
Zenawi
administration and
their democratic
decorum have been
exposed worldwide
(http://www.sidama.org/ethiopia1.htm).
The Tigray regime is
by now well known
for partial, brutal,
undemocratic, and
racist actions
perpetrated against
the citizens of
their own country,
who only want to
exercise their
basic,
constitutional
rights in a
non-violent manner.
Immoral officials,
known for their
complete lack of
ideals and humane
principles, and mass
media, specialized
in falsehood and
biases, are the
regime´s basic tools
of oppression. To
reiterate its false
allegations that
serve only for cover
up, the regime
relied on both. Of
course, all this
does not change in
anything the truth
about the Meles
Zenawi regime as one
of the most brutal
ones in the world.
Despite all that,
this regime is still
supported by the
aforementioned
Western countries
due to their vested
interests.
The Unrepentant
Abyssinian Regimes
The TPLF/EPRDF
regime had the
opportunity to learn
from the History of
the dictators; they
should have thought
twice about their
cruel and
unjustified actions
taken against the
Sidama and other
subjugated nations
of the colonial
empire. The TPLF/EPRDF
leaders could have
understood that
intimidation,
torture and
inhumanely brutal
attitudes toward all
the subjugated
nations can not
change the basic
political vision,
determination, and
goal. The
indefatigable and
heroic Sidamas and
all the other
subjugated nations
live with their mind
and their spirit
fixed on the Day of
their Liberation and
Independence. This
reality is
irreversible.
Any brutal and evil
actions of the
regime against the
Sidama nation and
the other oppressed
nation of the
colonial empire can
only strengthen our
unity and uplift our
spirit to intensify
the liberation
struggle that was
laid down by our
heroic ancestors,
whatever the cost
and whatever the
time it takes.
The Sidama Nation is
committed to the
continuation of the
struggle until the
Sidama National
Independence; the
Moment a Free Sidama
nation will be
re-established is
not far.
As ever before, the
Sidamas never kneel
down to dictatorial
regimes; they will
continue
intensifying their
resistance against
the Abyssinian
regime, and more
specifically its
most atrocious
representative, the
monstrous Tigray
tyrant Meles Zenawi.
