Sidama: Looqee Massacre Six Years on, the Nation' all round sufferings worsening!

By Kambata Xoola, May 24 2008

If the cruelty of the Neo-Nazi Abyssinian administration seems inexplicable to some, it is unknown to many. As a matter of fact, it is a shame for the world not to know, not to care, and not to intervene in Neo-Nazi Abyssinia (fallaciously renamed Ethiopia) to stop one of the World History's most appalling and most inhuman pages. I expanded many times about Oromia, Ogaden, Sidama Land, and Anuak Land that have been some of the foreign lands that the Abyssinians invaded and annexed over the past 150 years. (Professor S. Megalommatis May 2008 American Chronicle)

May 24, 2002, the day of utter brutality!

On the 24th of May 2002, the sons and daughters of the Sidama nation were mercilessly slaughtered in day light. It was exactly 11:30am local time when the brutal massacre took place by the repressive and the most uncivilised Abyssinian regime's security forces. Over 15, 000 Sidama representatives from all over the Sidama region and their capital city Hawasaa (also known as Awassa) and its environs staged out on demonstration demanding their rights for regional autonomy. They went on demonstration after they have fully satisfied all the necessary requirements that Meles Zenawi's pseudo constitution requires.

The nation was claiming its constitutional rights that allow the nations in Abyssinian Empire the rights for independence not only for regional autonomy. And of course, the Sidama was and is demanding the right that is actually granted for various least populated nations than over '5million populated Sidama nation, in the other parts of the Empire.

It was under these basic and civilised understandings that the Sidama nation trusted deceitful regime that doesn't abide to its constitution to go on demonstration to claim their basic rights in a civilised and non-violent manner. Hundreds of thousands of Sidama demonstrators were armless and were peacefully marching shouting peaceful chants from the near by local village called Looqee (about 4-5 kilometre from Awassa) towards their capital city when they were responded with live ammunition from the most arrogant regime's army and security forces that were deliberately organised for the massacre of the Sidama nation by the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) led Abyssinian regime and its regional puppet officials.

All demonstrators were carrying leaves of trees as a sign of peace and non-violence. Yet, Abyssinian regime, the most uncivilised and that has ruled its subjects with Iron feasts for over the period of a century and a half treated the Sidama citizens with usual barbarism and brutality.

The immediate death of 69 innocent Sidama civilian demonstrators was confirmed. The victims comprise all ages and sex groups including children, women and elderly. Others several hundreds were wounded and left without any medical support some are left to die ceaselessly bleeding. Others several dead bodies whose corpses were not allowed to be collected by their beloved ones' with dignity and pride were also devoured by hyenas and other wild animals over the period of 24-48 hours after the massacre. Dead bodies were also dragged on the streets of the capital and left for over 24 hours as a punishment to frighten other Sidamas so that they don't raise about the regional issue. None of the international Medias were allowed to the region. The streets of Sidama capital were virtually changed to war Zone and no one from Sidama origin was allowed to move freely from place to place apart from their regional and Zone puppets.

During these times, the Sidama language (Sidaamuu-Afoo) was not allowed to be spoken in their capital as the Ag'azi army (special commando that safeguards Meles's brutal regime and was brought to the region to brutalise the Sidamas) was ordered to shoot any one who speaks Sidaamuu-Afoo. The language was considered the language of people who don't accept the rules of tyrannical successive Abyssinian regimes. The Sidama innocents who were seeking justice and civilised treatment in a civilised manner have received such premeditated, merciless and uncivilised response from Neo-Nazi Abyssinian dictator Meles's security forces. Few irresponsible and egocentric Sidama traitors served and are serving the regime to add on the agony and sufferings of their sisters, brothers, fathers and mothers and generations to come if it is not stopped on time.

The immediate aftermaths of the May 24, 2002; the Consequences

Awassa, its environs and the rest of the Sidama region were put under timeless curfew immediately after the massacre. The region was entirely changed to war zone. No movement was allowed for the Sidamas. The cities and towns including rural areas filled with federal and regional security forces and army that are prepared to kill, arrest and torture the Sidamas that move out of their houses. Children as young as 12, elderly and women were dragged out of their houses to be thrown into prisons and brutally tortured for months to come. Aforementioned special commandos from the federal regime ordered to stifle further demonstration and intimidate the nation as a whole; was in full control.

In Awassa over 40 peoples were cluttered into single prison rooms that are originally partitioned for up to only 5-6 peoples. All prisoners were left to languish under unsanitary conditions and were prohibited from going out for toilet as much as they needed; but once in 24 hours for few minutes. Where no body can imagine the independence of judiciary without freedom of expression, the Sidama people were left for months deprived of visits from their loved ones. Several people from the prisoners already have lost their beloved ones to the security forces during the previous massacre.

Instead of attempting to find lasting solution for the burning issue demanded by the Sidama nation, Meles's brutal regime has harassed, killed indiscriminately arrested and tortured additional tens of thousands of innocent Sidamas. Hundreds of prisons in Sidama became extremely full. They were full of agonisingly Sidama prisoners' voices that are resulted from endless anguishes from whom receiving severe tortures. The regime also had to transfer hundreds of prisoners from their land to the neighbouring Oromia region's town called Shashemane (the nearest town to Awassa) to ease the burden of Sidama prisons and to keep the prisoners brutalising until it fully silences any movements of Sidama people for regional autonomy.

Meles's regime also deliberately stopped any business activities in the region including food supply from villages to villages and from town to town at that precise moment.  It has also mobilised anti-Sidama movements of other ethnic groups in Sidama region that supports the regime's hideous actions against the nation as a whole and promote the interest of Abyssinian supporters within Sidama land.

Sidama at present time and the response of the West for Meles's brutality.

Flagrant violations of Sidamas basic rights by the Meles's tyrant regime continued unabated. Starvation, ultra poverty and diseases are biting!! Sadly such genocidal intent of the most brutal Abyssinian tyrant regime didn't fetch any interest from his western allies on war on terrorism. They disregard his very being one of the most terrorists ever the empire had to given a blind eye for the relentless sufferings of the Sidama and other nations of the empire who are virtually deprived of their basic and fundamental rights.

The Sidama is heading from bad to worst; from relative stability and self sufficiency to deliberately orchestrated socio-cultural, political and economic calamity. As I am writing this piece of work, tens of hundreds of Sidama children pregnant women and mothers and elderly are dying from starvation without anyone taking into to account of their agony. No one is there to discuss their plight in a genuinely reasonable manner. Tens of thousands are suppressed and others several arrested for no reason. No freedom of expression! Who demands his/her basic rights regarded as criminals and thrown to jails.

More over, the nation's puppet regional representatives (so called Sidama People's Democratic Organisation, SPDO) are those who don't have know-how on how the world systems in a democratic manner work. They all are the by products of Meles's civil service college that is meticulously designed by Meles Zenawi himself to modify the natures of individuals (as GM seeds) so that they can breath by the lungs of TPLF's tyrant leader Meles Zenawi under the pretext of representation and regionalisation to deceive his donors and nations within the empire. Therefore, those who are hand-picked by Meles himself and his authorities to serve his systematic suppression and expropriation of resources from the Sidama and others regions by deploying various means don't understand and articulate that their support of Abyssinian decaying regime compromises the futurity of their nation and their dignity. The principles they hold undermine the essence of humanity, thus they brutalise their brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers with all available means.

Where the inflation that is purely orchestrated by the decaying Meles's regime is soaring to its highest in the Empire's history; lives for entire nations including the Sidama become very difficult. In Sidama region the difference is that, the 'Sidama' is the place where Meles's tyrant regime stationed to plot against overt 42 southern Ethiopian nations including the Sidama that are fumigated under the Pressure Cooker named, pseudo 'Southern Ethiopian Nations and Nationalities Regional State). Therefore the Sidama attracts more attention than others in the south. The amalgamation of the Southern nations all together without their wills goes long back to the establishment of Abyssinian colonial relic by Abyssinian king Minelik II in 1880s. Therefore, the Sidama nation remains in the spolights of successive Abyssinians regimes and their resources are on constant plundders.

More over, as I have mentioned in the introductory part from Professor S. Magalomatis's artilce; no one cares for the plights of Sidama and wider other nations of the empire those who suffer under this tyrannical regime.

If the cruelty of the Neo-Nazi Abyssinian administration seems inexplicable to some, it is unknown to many. As a matter of fact, it is a shame for the world not to know, not to care, and not to intervene in Neo-Nazi Abyssinia (fallaciously renamed Ethiopia) to stop one of the World History´s most appalling and most inhuman pages (Professor S. Magalommatis, May 2008)

The regime works towards systematic extermination of the nations such as the Sidama that shows and continues to be resilient in a number of ways. The aid that arrives scarcely from Meles's regime western allies is channeled directly to the north regions including Meles's Tigray, and towards the regions whose peoples have confirmed their complete subservience. The Sidama region being one of the greenest and fertile in the empire, no viable development activities are taking place since Sidama Development Corporation (SDC) was dismantled and prominent its founders are made to flee the country.

However, Meles's and his affiliate's business companies operate in Sidama land lucratively holding upper hands and dominating entire region. The 'Black Gold' named coffee is purely produced in Sidama, Oromia and Gedeo that fetches over 60% of hard foreign currency for the Empire; although these all incomes purely serve Abyssinian dictators and their affiliates. The regime is widening its horizons on it exploitation of resources from all regions.

As it is the case in the west part of the empire, as Professor S. Magalommatis writes''The agrofuel industry is very active in Ethiopia, and the government is doing all it can to attract foreign investment. The most popular crop is jatropha, followed by castor beans and some palm oil in the coffee-growing regions, all of which are to be used to produce biodiesel. There are also moves afoot to establish an ethanol industry'' (Professor S. Megalommatis), the regime is creating conflicts between sister nations to have an excuse to uproot those particular nations involved in the conflicts to give their lands to the trans-national companies to create agricultural lands for bio-fuel production. In Sidama it is evident that people are suffering from water born diseases that are purely caused by coffee processing machines' by products' for which no one stand responsible to find alternative solutions for the suffers. The recent conflicts between deprived Oromo and Sidama nations around (Malgee Wondoo) that are orchestrated purely by the Abyssinian regime are the by-products of such malicious actions of the Abyssinian Meles's regime and their puppet regional officials who don't hold any principles in their lives.

Finally, the Sidama nation is stretching its hands for the helping hands of humanitarian peoples of the globe and demands international humanitarian organizations includign the UN to denounce the Abyssinian colonial relic's rampant human rights abuses, deliberate impoverishments and to listen to the voices of the most marginalized and rampantly abused nations of the Abyssinian empire including the Sidama nation.
