Religion of the Sidama

God (Magano), Spirit ( Ayaana), and Ancestors (Anuwa Akaakate Ayaana) are the fundamental elements of faith for the Sidamas and are an integral parts of their lives. Above all, the Sidama nations' morality and moral value lies in the true way of life which, in Sidama language, is "Halaale". Halaale is every thing to the Sidama people and their beliefs depend on this accepted value of life. If one is sworn by the name of Halaale, it means that one is calling the name of Magano. This means everything to the Sidamas. It means, God, Spirit, true way of life without lie and so forth. Magano is addressed by the Sidamas as father and therefore, they believe that he is a true judge.

At present in Sidama land, there are Christians, Muslims and traditional believers. All of the people believe in a true way of life, Halaale.
