The Sidama nation hasn't accepted the Abyssinian conquest peacefully. They
made various attempts to repulse the invading army of Minelik known by
'Neftegna', carriers of gun, led by General Beshah Aboye which was
annihilated by the Sidama army and civilians led by the king of Sidama
called Baalichcha Worawo. It was Leoulseged's army (Minelik's General) which
was able to establish full Abyssinian domination in the Sidama land and
assassinate Baalichcha Worawo and other martyrs of the Sidama. Read more

God (Magano), Spirit ( Ayaana), and Ancestors (Anuwa Akaakate Ayaana) are the fundamental elements of faith for the Sidamas and are an integral parts of their lives. Above all, the Sidama nations' morality and moral value lies on the true way of life which in Sidama language "Halaale". Read more

The SNLO is committed to enabling the people to fully regain their lost political, social, economic and cultural freedom. Read more

The cultural affairs of the Sidama society is handled by the Woma system. The Woma system has its own council known as the Womu Songo. Woma acts like a cultural and religious leader. Read more
