Four Ethiopians Die of Car Accident in South Africa

Four Ethiopian two from Sidama and two from Hadiya regions were killed in a horrifying car accident on early hours of April 21, 2008. The small truck known local as a backie in which the Ethiopians were traveling was run over by a big truck driven by a local person in a place known as Klerksdorp, North West Province, South Africa. The four Ethiopians died on the scene while the fifth Ethiopian passenger is in a critical condition in a near by hospital. The two Sidama nationals killed in the accident were Abebe Tadesse Yue and Endale Ledamo Worku while the two Hadiya nationals were Hailu Hankore and Abebe Basore.

 

The bodies of the four Ethiopians were sent to their respective regions in Ethiopia for burial by their families on the 24th and 25th of April 2008. Abebe Tadesse Yue was a diploma holder in education and a former teacher in a school in the Sidama region of Ethiopia. He was displaced from Sidama as a result of political turmoil following the massacre of the Sidama civilians in Loqqee, Awassa on May 24, 2002 by the police and defense forces of the current Ethiopian regime. He survived by his wife and a daughter. Endale Ledamo Worku was a young promising long distance (marathon) runner who was about to commence his career in a local Athletics club in South Africa when the accident occurred.

 

The cause of the accident was not yet determined
